AI is not hype. It is your next move on the board

Schaaksteen

Everyone is talking about it: AI. But what does it really mean for your organisation? Is it hype or hard necessity? We asked Antoine de Wispelaere, CEO of FIDDS, who deals daily with the strategic deployment of data and AI at companies in healthcare, finance and services.

“We still act as if AI is a toy”

Antoine shakes his head when we ask him how organisations currently handle AI. “I still see too often that AI is positioned as something for later. Something for the IT department, or an experimental side project. While in reality it should be your new strategic foundation.”

Why does that not happen?

“For many executives, it feels as if AI changes everything, and that is true. But change is exciting. And when you feel like you are already behind, it is tempting to postpone it a bit longer. Only: that is precisely what you cannot afford.”

AI is not the end of work, but a new beginning

Antoine sees it often: fear that AI will make jobs redundant. But according to him, that is a misconception.

“AI does not replace what people do well. It strengthens it. It removes the repetitive, time-consuming work and creates room for human strength: maintaining oversight, setting direction, making strategic choices.”

What changes concretely?

“The role of leaders. From executor to director. You do not need to be able to do everything yourself, but you must understand how to make humans and machines collaborate smartly.”

“The real AI revolution is yet to begin”

When asked where we stand now, Antoine is clear: we are only at the beginning.

“Many AI applications are currently focused on text, image or pattern recognition. Fascinating, but limited. The real power lies in orchestration: multiple AI systems working together as a team. Think of an AI manager that manages, adjusts and optimises processes, continuously, scalably and smartly.”

But that does require something from organisations.

“You cannot let AI loose without oversight. You need governance, ethical guidelines, good feedback loops. It is not about experimenting, but about implementing, strategically, responsibly and measurably.”

And yes, AI works, also in healthcare and finance

Many organisations wonder: is AI already “ready” for us?

Antoine: “Absolutely. Look at healthcare: AI removes administrative burden, so healthcare providers have more time for their patients. In finance you often see five systems for one process. That can be much smarter with the right deployment of AI and SaaS solutions.”

Result? Less manual work, fewer errors, more focus.

“Change is not an IT project: it is a people journey”

What holds organisations back then?

“The system still works ‘okay’. But ‘okay’ is no longer enough. Change starts not with technology, but with people. You need vision, training, guidance, repetition.”

FIDDS therefore combines technical expertise with change management. “Only when systems, processes and people move together do you achieve real progress.”

The next move is yours

According to Antoine, the future is not a plug-and-play story, but it is playable. “The organisations that dare to invest now will have the advantage later. The question is: are you the director of your future? Or do you let others determine your game?”
